Acting Extras – 5 Reasonably Useful Tips

2010 May 5
Posted by admin1

We would all love to famous and rich, most of us would be happy with one of these, but acting extras usually end up neither! Having said that it can be fun and also a foot in the door of the film and TV world. Here are a few tips that you may find useful.

Avoid the con-man!

There are many well know scams and cons that have been around for years that take advantage of peoples desire to be acting extras. The most common usually involve very high fees, some times in the $1000s, for signing up to an acting extras agency. These fees usually entitle you to composites or head shots that are at best pointless and at worst misleading, or the promise a series of acting classes which, if they materialize, are of no real benefit.

Get a good agent

To avoid the traps listed above, look for a well established agency. There will be a one off registration fee $20 or $30 to pay for the initial admin. But after that they make money when you do – that is their job! They will work to find you auditions that suit your skills and physical type.If you have a specific skill or physical attribute you may get paid more. Its worth pointing out that if you have an agent and get a job yourself, without their input, you still have to pay them. If you are with an agent and they fail to get you any work at all you can move to another by giving them 30 days notice of the cancellation of the contract in writing.

Behave yourself

As an acting extra bad on-set behavior can greatly affect how much work you get.

Some good ground rules are;

  • Arrive early.
  • If you are new, watch and learn from your more experienced colleagues.
  • Bring a book because you can be on set with nothing to do for hours. But when you are asked to do something do it straight away.
  • Treat the cast and crew with courtesy and respect.
  • Food is provided, but know your place in the pecking order.
  • Never speak to the stars! If they speak to you first fine then respond, but you and they are there to do a job of work, you are not being paid to be a fan.

If you misbehave onset you could endanger your chances of being asked back or even sent from set there and then.

Keep your eyes and ears open

This obviously applies to taking advice from more experienced extras on set, but it also applies to getting work. Films and TV shows are filmed all over the country and every time an outdoor scene is required then locals get work as acting extras. These jobs are advertised in the local press and though they are usually at the lower end of the pay-scale, they could be a foot in the door or just a good experience.

Get a Screen Actors Guild card

Extras fall into two categories, those who have a Screen Actors Guild card (SAG) and those that do not. The Screen Actors Guild was set up in the 30s to improve the working condition of actors. When you have the SAG card you get paid more and hopefully your career develops. Every acting extra starts without the card then as they do more and more work their chances of getting one improve, there been talk of a points system recently, but your agent will be able to help with advice. The basic rule is the more work you get the more money you get paid. Easy!

I hope that this brief article has helped. Acting as an extra can be fun, it probably wont make you rich and famous, but you might make some good friends and have some excellent diner party stories!

Good luck

Rentals Are an Option For Children’s Parties

2010 May 5
Posted by admin1

Not all parents are willing to settle for a traditional, simple party when it comes to their little ones. While some consider having a few friends over with a birthday cake and games to play, others pull out all of the stops. From clowns and magicians to entertain to the pony rides of a child’s dreams, they want to cover all of the bases. If you are planning the extravaganza that you know won’t be forgotten anytime soon by your child, don’t forget that you will need seating arrangements for all the children you invite.

When adults throw parties for adults, it’s natural to accommodate guests with a place to sit and eat whatever is served and enjoy talking with the other guests. However, when parents throw a big party for the little ones, they often assume that children will be playing the whole time without needing any place to sit or put their food. Not only do they need their own seating arrangements, but they also need something that is just the right size for them to sit at and enjoy themselves.

Of course, most of us don’t have enough dinette furniture to accommodate large groups of children, especially if you are throwing the party outdoors. Luckily, you will find that there are many places that will rent you the furnishings that you need, just for kids.

Party supply rentals will often carry a line of child-size furniture that you can use for special events for all ages. In addition, most are very reasonable so you don’t add a lot to an already huge bill. Many of them also supply other necessities like bubble machines, Snow Cone machines and those for favorite kids’ snacks. Of course, there will be many choices for you to choose from if you need some help with the decorations.

You may want to arrange seating under tents where you don’t have to worry about sudden weather changes ruining the day. Don’t forget to allow room to seat all of your child-sized guests, any adults that will be present, and still allow room for the food and the gifts.

Inflatables are also a new trend when it comes to rentals to provide children with the fun of bouncing and sliding on a safe toy. Some places will offer a discount when you rent more so getting everything you need for the party from one furniture or party rental business could save money overall.

In the event that you are interested in finding the dining furniture for your little guests but you don’t have furniture or party rentals close to you, there may be other options. Sometimes churches, schools, or restaurants that have catering services also provide dining furniture for children. Even if you end up with the metal folding pieces that aren’t very elegant, you can always add your own decorations to make them look the part.

To make your child’s party a hit, don’t forget the details that will make it a treat in every way.

Let you children have the enjoyment of their very own kids table and chairs. See their smiles stretch from ear to ear, playing and socializing with their very own children table and chairs.

Top Computer Schools

2010 May 5
Posted by admin1

There are a number of computer schools in the United States that offer computer courses and have sprung up due to the increasing demand for trained Information Technology (IT) professionals. With so many schools and institutes to choose from, it is difficult to decide on the computer school that is best. In the decision process for the top computer schools, consider the reputation of the institute offering the computer courses, the type of courses offered, whether the latest courses are available, the faculty that is engaged and the success rate of the computer school. Most of this information is readily available in the computer school’s prospectus, brochure, or their website.

For an individual, it is practically impossible to find out all the information pertaining to all the relevant computer schools and compare them and arrive at the results for the top computer schools. Certain companies carry out yearly surveys about the various schools, colleges and universities and compile them based on the courses offered. The US News and World report had surveyed more than 2000 traditional colleges and virtual universities in the year 2006 and compiled a directory of the undergraduate and graduate level courses, certificates and degrees.

Based on their survey, The University of California, Berkeley, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Carnegie Mellon University (PA), Stanford University, Cornell University (NY), University of Washington, Princeton University (NJ), Rice University (TX), University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign, University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Pennsylvania, Harvard University (MA), University of California-Los Angeles, and the Columbia University (NY) are some of the top ranking schools in the United States of America, in the computers field. There are some online computer schools as well that offer certificate, associate and graduate level courses in computers, to name a few, DeVry University, ITT Technical Institute and the University of Phoenix.

Computer Schools provides detailed information on Computer Schools, Computer Graphic Schools, Computer Training Schools, Computer Science Schools and more. Computer Schools is affiliated with Microsoft Certifications [http://www.i-Certification.com].

Are You Eligible For a Student Consolidation Loan?

2010 May 5
Posted by admin1

Parents today are forced to opt for different student loan options to help children complete their education. Especially during these tough economic times, students find themselves stuck with one or more school debt that they are unable to manage and pay every month. Federal loan consolidation was introduced to help students consolidate and bring all their payments under one umbrella.

Student loan consolidation is offered by both commercial lenders and the U.S. Department of Education, to reduce strain for borrowers and streamline their debt into a single repayment program. Borrowers are offered extended repayment terms thereby reducing the amount they have to pay every month and making their budget manageable.

Students who have dropped to part-time, left school or have graduated can consolidate their Stafford loan. PLUS loans on the other hand can be consolidated after they have been disbursed completely. Direct loan consolidation repayment starts 60 days after the disbursal of loan.

Products that are eligible for consolidation include the Student PLUS, Parent PLUS, unsubsidized and subsidized Stafford and Perkins loans. Eligibility does not take into account whether it is from the Federal Direct Program (FDLP) or the Federal Family Education (FFEL).

It is not possible to consolidate a Perkins loan by itself. It can only be combined with another eligible product. Similarly, private loans are not eligible for direct consolidation. They can be consolidated only through a commercial lender.

As the direct loan servicing center will tell you, if you are delinquent or have defaulted in your payments, you can consolidate such only after fulfilling certain requirements. This requires you to make at least three voluntary, on time, consecutive payments to existing lender prior to applying for consolidation. Defaulters can also consolidate under the FDLP Income Contingent Repayment Plan where their income, amount borrowed and size of family are taken into account to adjust monthly payment amount.

Besides writing articles online Dan also creates informative and helpful websites. You can check out his latest website on direct loan consolidation and direct loans servicing, helping both current and former students make important decisions about student loan consolidation.

Bad Credit Loans: Be Careful!

2010 May 5
Posted by admin1

If you’ve gotten yourself over your head in debt, and suddenly have a need for cash right away, it is possible to get a loan for bad credit. Loans for bad credit will not give you a worse rating if you require a non-bad credit loan later down the road, and they will get you some money very quickly – perhaps too quickly.

But how could a loan for bad credit be too quick? Well, if you decide to get a bad credit loan, apply, and then suddenly – WOW – you have the money the next day, have you really thought out this bad credit loan adequately? Have you researched all of the other bad credit loan options, or did you just pick the first one that struck your fancy? Did you ask around, surf the Internet, and talk to your banking institution before applying for that bad credit loan? Did you do some reading at the library, crunch some numbers, and talk to your family about this bad credit loan, first?

If you think about it for a bit, there will be an interest rate with your bad credit loan – probably more than with any other loan you carry. It’s a risk for a lender to extend credit to someone with bad financial history, so they overcompensate with higher interest rates. Rates as high as 15 point over prime, at times. Do you really need to go into more debt asking for a bad credit loan, just to pay off another bill? Isn’t there another way?

This can all become a huge problem if you eventually need more money because of your bad credit – which means another loan. And then another, and another… you get the drift. Your interest on a $3000 loan could be as high as $500, not including the actual bad credit loan repayment itself. Can you afford this? All for a bad credit loan debt.

This cycle may only become a problem if you manage your bad credit loans poorly, or borrow more money than you can afford to pay off. To avoid these types of bad credit loan issues, ONLY borrow what you can afford – just because the process is super quick, doesn’t mean you need to come to a decision just as quickly. Take your time. Research everything well. Talk it over with friends and family. Make sure your payments won’t be over your head, especially with all of your other debts. A bad credit loan is a serious thing – don’t enter into it lightly.

Perhaps talk to some friends or family first, instead of adding to your debt and asking for a bad credit loan. Maybe if you take this choice, or perhaps try and find extra income instead, you can avoid the whole bad credit loan trap, forever. And with less bad credit comes a lesser need for a loan – and the cycle stops.

Wound Dressings – Transparent Film Dressings

2010 May 5
Posted by admin1

Many health care professionals use transparent dressings on a frequent basis, but may not be aware of the purpose of these dressings. In fact, these dressings are not meant for all wounds. Read on to discover everything you ever needed to know about transparent film dressings.

Product Overview

Transparent film dressings are thin dressings which have no ability to absorb fluids. They act as a “second skin”. Imitating your outermost skin layer, they keep a moist wound environment, similar to a blister. They are semi-permeable to gases and have the ability to transmit moisture vapour. These types of dressings permit the migration of epithelial cells over the wound surface. Fluid often accumulates under these dressings.

Indications

-can be used on stage 1 and 2 pressure ulcers
-superficial wounds
-lacerations, or to cover sutured wounds
-minor burns
-to protect catheter sites and donor sites
-superficial dermal ulcers
-can be used to protect against friction

Contraindications

-must be applied to healthy skin, not to aging or fragile skin
-not recommended for infants or small children
-do not use on exudation wounds
-do not use for infected wounds

Advantages

-a cleaner wound surface is created as the accumulation of fluid under the dressing creates an autoloytic environment
-an excellent protective barrier against surface contaminants, bacteria and fluid
-provides protection from friction
-aids in pain control
-aids in autolytic debridement
-can be used as a secondary dressing
-can be left on for up to 7 days
-numerous shapes and sizes are available to fit a wide variety of wounds

Disadvantages

-fluid which accumulates under the dressing is sometimes mistakenly identified as pus
-the dressing needs to be changed when fluid accumulates excessively or leaks out the side of the dressing
-maceration of the skin around the wound (periwound) may occur if the dressing is not changed when it should be

When removing the dressing, care must be taken to ensure that you don’t tear or damage the skin. To remove, lift the corner of the dressing and pull the film outwards to the edges of the wound to break the barrier. It is important to support the surrounding skin during dressing removal.

In addition, some prefer to use skin protective sprays or wipes on the periwound area before application of the dressing. These help to keep the dressing edges from rolling.

Cheap Rugs – Does Cheap Mean Cheap?

2010 May 5
Posted by admin1

What are cheap rugs? Are they worth your time? Should you look into buying these for your home? These are all questions that you will need to answer if you are a homeowner. This holds true not only for those people who already have a home, but also those who are interested in buying one. When it comes down to it, there is a lot that you need to know about cheap rugs. In other words, there are many benefits that you can get from buying these, but at the same time there are some people who will tell you that they are nothing more than a waste of your money.

First off, you will want to start with learning about the benefits of buying cheap rugs. Does cheap really mean cheap? Generally speaking, just because you are interested in buying a less expensive rug does not necessarily mean that you are going to get “cheap quality.” In most cases, the only thing cheap about cheap rugs is the price that you are going to have to pay. And for most people, this is what interests them the most.

Another huge benefit of cheap rugs is that they will allow you to buy more than one piece at a time. If you are going to but an ultra expensive rug there is a good chance that you will only be able to afford one. But when you decide to shop for cheap rugs, you are going to have the chance to redo your entire home. In fact, there is a good chance that you will be able to get several cheap rugs for the same price as one more expensive piece. In the end, this will allow you to change the look and feel of your entire home; not just one room. For new homeowners this is a huge benefit because they can make a unique living space, while not having to spend entirely too much money.

On the other side of things, many people shy away from cheap rugs for a number of different reasons. The shame of the matter is that these reasons are nothing more than negative perceptions that do not make any sense. For instance, some people think that the word cheap always means low quality. While this can be the case, when it comes to rugs you usually do not have much to worry about. And this is especially true if you know that you are buying from a reputable seller.

Also, many people think that cheap rugs are another way of saying ugly rugs. Although this can be true, even the most expensive options may appear ugly to you. When it comes down to it, the look of a rug has nothing to do with the price and everything to do with your personal tastes.

All in all, there are many benefits that go along with buying cheap rugs. As a homeowner you should look into the benefits that these have to offer. And even if you come across some drawbacks that you may not agree with, chances are that the benefits of these pieces will win you over in the end.

Looking for a great selection of cheap rugs Bold Rugs.net has a wide selection of area rugs from contemporary area rugs to traditional area rugs.

3 Popular Supplements That Are a Waste of Money

2010 May 5
Posted by admin1

This might make me a few enemies, but I believe that 99% of supplements and “superfoods” on the market are an absolute waste of money.

It seems like every time you turn your head, someone is offering the latest and greatest “beauty enhancing” or “breakthrough” superfood or supplement.

But what if I told you something shocking yet so simple to understand: there’s no “food” that arrives in a bottle, having been made in a factory and sold in powdered form, that will ever compare in terms of “super-nutrition” to fresh fruits and vegetables.

But still, almost every day I get an e-mail that says, “what do you think of __________” (fill in the blank with whatever supplement or superfood is now being promoted as the latest “amazing” product).

Although it would take forever to review every product on the market, let’s review some popular supplements and superfoods that, in my opinion, are an absolute waste of money.

Green Powder

Almost every supplement company has a variation of the “green powder,” which is basically a powder made with dried grass, dried grass juices or dried vegetables and possibly algae. This powder is supposed to make your body more alkaline and give you nutrition you can’t find elsewhere.

First, I would say that grass powder is not a worthy food and anyone growing grass and turning it into a powder and making a lot of money selling it is really laughing their way to the bank at the expense of unknowing customers. Even if it’s called “wheatgrass”, it’s still grass.

A powder of vegetables or algae can never compare in nutritional value to fresh vegetables, even if those vegetables are not organic.

The real superfoods are dark green vegetables such as spinach, romaine lettuce, black kale, parsley, celery, arugula, and so on.

With the use of “green smoothies” made with *fresh* green vegetables and fruit, anyone can obtain superior nutrition in a few minutes a day (ruling out the argument that people don’t have “time” to eat well).

Green smoothies and fresh raw greens literally put these green powders to shame. For a free mini-course on the power of green smoothies, go to:

Protein Powder

Another all-time favorite of supplement companies is the protein powder, in all its forms. There’s the ultra-refined soy protein powder, we’ve got whey protein, rice protein, and now a less refined hemp protein.

But the idea is the same: that somehow, no matter how much food you eat, there’s still a chance you might not get enough protein, so therefore you should consume protein in a concentrated, powdered form.

This idea is especially popular among body-builders and gym-goers. It’s interesting to note that starting from the Greek gymnasiums two and a half thousand years ago through the ages of gladiators and modern gymnastics, men and women of all ages have been able to build magnificent, muscular bodies eating nothing more than simple foods and without the use of protein powders.

This is a classic example of how you can market a product by first “creating a problem” that doesn’t exist.

Nutrition textbooks teach that you can get all the protein you need as long as you consume enough calories from whole foods, even if all you eat is fruits and vegetables.

Noni Juice

Although this discussion could lead me to cover any possible supplement or superfood among the thousands of products available, I think you’re starting to get my point.

I’ll just finish with an example of a “superfood” called noni and sold as “noni juice.”

The noni is a fruit that’s been used for centuries in Polynesia for its alleged medicinal properties. But there is very limited scientific evidence to support these properties.

When I visited Tahiti last winter, I was on the tiny island of Huahine and had the chance to try real noni juice from a local Tahitian couple who made the juice from their own fruit tree.

Let me tell you that it was the most disgusting, horrible concoction that I ever had in my entire life!

Obviously, the noni is not a natural food for humans, as there is no way anyone would want to consume it unless they thought it had some medicinal value.

My Tahitian friends explained how they prepare the noni juice. They put all these unappetizing, weird-smelling noni fruits in a jar and then let the thing ferment for several days.

Then the fermented juice that oozes out of the fruits and reeks like the juice that’s formed at the bottom of a trash container is what they drink.

Now American companies have had the great idea of adding a bunch of sugar to this awful tasting Tahitian folk remedy juice, making up a fantastic story around it, throwing in some questionable science and selling millions of dollars worth of the stuff to suckers.

Listen closely: it’s completely absurd to think that one food can be a universal remedy for all our ills. We need nutrients from different sources and Nature isn’t so capricious as to put everything in one place.

We’re meant to eat fresh fruits and vegetables, drink pure water and have a healthy lifestyle with lots of exercise and healthy relationships and positive thoughts.

All the rest is marketing and hype.

Of course, you are free to believe what you want about noni juice and other kinds of superfoods available on the market.

But do yourself a favor and make the decision to try for yourself what the study and experience of natural hygiene and health through a pure raw-based diet can do for you.
